What We Know So Far

• Organising institute: IIT Delhi is set to organise JEE Advanced 2027, continuing the seven-IIT rotation system.
• Expected exam window: Second or third week of May 2027 (official date typically confirmed around December 2026).
• Registration: Opens shortly after JEE Main 2027 Session 2 results, expected in late April 2027, in a short 5-7 day window.
• Eligibility: Only the top 2,50,000 rankers in JEE Main across all categories can register — this is a hard cutoff, not a guideline.
• Attempts: Maximum two attempts in two consecutive years.

Since the exact date isn't locked yet, don't wait for the official notification to begin preparation — by the time it's announced, serious aspirants are usually already deep into revision.

The Marking Scheme Is More Nuanced Than JEE Main

This trips up a lot of students moving from JEE Main to JEE Advanced prep: the negative marking isn't uniform across question types. JEE Advanced mixes MCQs, multi-correct questions, numerical-value questions, and match-the-following formats across two compulsory papers — and numerical value type questions typically carry no negative marking, unlike single-correct MCQs. That changes your risk calculus significantly: a numerical question you're unsure about is a much safer attempt than an MCQ you're unsure about.

Total marks are split evenly — 180 each for Paper 1 and Paper 2, for 360 total. Both papers are compulsory; missing either one disqualifies you from the ranking process entirely, even if you did well on the other.

A Realistic Prep Timeline

If you're starting now, here's roughly how serious aspirants pace the run-up:

• Now through late 2026: Build depth in Class 11/12 Physics, Chemistry, and Maths concepts — JEE Advanced rewards conceptual application far more than memorization.
• Post JEE Main Session 1 (Jan 2027): Start shifting practice toward JEE Advanced-style questions specifically — multi-correct and numerical formats need separate practice, not just harder MCQs.
• April-May 2027: Full switch to timed, paper-format mocks. Rework past years' JEE Advanced papers cold, under actual 3-hour conditions.
